According to official report received from Military Region 4 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), on the morning of May 24, 2026, between 09:24 AM and 10:10 AM, 22 rounds of unprovoked gunfire were heard, fired by Thai military forces in the area of the O’Smach International Border Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey Province, on Cambodian territory currently being illegally occupied by Thai military forces.

In response to this incident, the Cambodian Military Region 4 Liaison Team dispatched a formal letter of protest to the Thai Army Area 2 Liaison Team, demanding that the Thai side verify the facts, strictly enforce troop discipline, and fully adhere to the Joint Statement of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025.
