OpenAI has announced the termination of numerous ChatGPT accounts that criminal groups used to write scam messages and trick money out of victims worldwide.
How they use AI for scams:
• Creating fake dating profiles and fake “investment experts”
• Translating messages into multiple languages and sending them via WhatsApp and Telegram
• Impersonating law enforcement agents to intimidate victims into paying “fines”
• Generating AI images such as fake documents and trading screens
• Persuading victims to invest in non-existent crypto and gold schemes
[Insight: If a stranger promises high returns or intimidates you into urgently transferring money — that is a sign of a scam. Do not transfer money, and do not send photos of your ID card.]
